Boston & Maine

This past weekend was our trip to Boston...Enjoyed a quick 4-day work week...Okay, I don't think it was that quick, but it was very nice not to have to work on Friday.

We got up Friday morning, was very nice to be able to sleep in, and took our time getting ready & packed, and then took off for the airport. Flew out of BWI, with no problems at all. We got into Boston and Ike picked us at the airport and over to his new place. We played a little bit of Wii -- good times, and then took off for the game. We drove to where he works and parked his car and then took the T down to Fenway. Went to Boston Billiards for a couple of beers and some food, then went to the park. Ike had to wait for Elaine to show up, so Mark & I went inside. On the way there we saw the Boston Celtics -- who just won the NBA Championship, which was pretty cool. Went inside & got beer and a hot dog, and went to our seats. We were only there for 5-10 minutes and the skies opened up and it started to pour. The Celtics were riding around the field on those ducks and everyone was cheering for them, and Mark & I just kinda stood there for a couple minutes before we decided it was a good idea to go down underneath the seats where it was dry. We were a little late in doing that since we were pretty soaked. We stayed under there until the downpours stopped, and then went back to our seats...In time to see the Celtics come back out & throw out the 1st pitch. And then we enjoyed the game. Mark was pretty impressed with the field. I think he said that Fenway may be his favorite stadium. We all had a pretty good time, and it was a good thing it wasn't too cool out...luckily we dried out and was able to enjoy the game & not worry about being so wet.

Saturday morning we got up a little early, 8:00 and showered and got ready to hit the road to Portland, Maine. We wanted to catch the 11:00 ferry to Long Island, (Ike's dad has a place up there.) We barely made the ferry, but we did with about a minute to spare. It was about a 45-minute boat ride to Long Island. You were able to drink on the Ferry, so we did that and enjoyed a nice ride!We stopped at the store & bought some burgers & hot dogs to grill for lunch, and walked to his dad's place. It was about a 20-minute walk or so there...Ike grilled us food for lunch...His dad travels all over the place and teaches. The past year or 2 he had been in Burma, and was there when the cyclone hit. It was pretty cool to hear all his stories/adventures. Really didn't do much at all during the day on Saturday. His place is right on the water so we pretty much sat out on his porch watching the boats coming in...watching the fog come in and out...closed my eyes a couple times and napped...Mark & I walked to the other side of the island to see the ocean...ate dinner...drank a couple beers....watched a pretty sunset...and that was about it. It was very nice to have absolutely nothing to worry about. Was a very relaxing day!

Sunday morning we got up, and Ike's dad fixed us bacon & pancakes for breakfast, and before you knew it, it was time to head back down to the ferry. Had a pretty foggy ride back to Portland...Made it back, and come to find out the parking garage Ike parked in was closed on Sundays. So while we were waiting for security to come let us in, we grabbed a sandwich for lunch and then hit the road back to Boston. Went back to Ike's place & we showered...and then headed into Boston to Fanueil hall for dinner. Met up with Erica & Jason, grabbed some dinner & a couple of drinks, and then headed to another bar for another drink. It was good getting to see them, and to be able to enjoy a couple of drinks on a Sunday night! Went back to Ike's place and played some more Wii & then some Rockband which was pretty fun! Got to play the drums and then some guitar, pretty cool game...And then we called it a night.

Monday morning we got up, showered, and Ike took us to the airport. We got there pretty early, which was nice not having to rush...and was able to sit there and read for awhile. Had no problems with our flight home...Made it to BWI, drove home, ran to the grocery store, and didn't do much the rest of the afternoon. I did go to kickball, but the other team had to forfeit b/c not enough people showed up, so we won another game!

All in all a very enjoyable and much needed vacation! Was very nice to have a 4-day weekend...and not to have anything to worry about while we were up in Boston!
